Space of Love

My last book, Space of Love, is making a comeback. I have had some recent opportunities to speak about it and reader interest has picked up. I am excited for the next leg of the journey and am following the breadcrumbs to see where they lead. I would love to host an online Space of Love reading group where we go through and discuss a few chapters at each webinar. Stay tuned.

On a recent podcast and during a recent event, I was asked to read the poem Space of Love. Listener responses were powerful.

Space of Love

I groan

Yet another early morning

I’d rather roll over and sleep

But he awaits.

My job begins early,

before the crack of dawn, at times.

Shower, shave, brush teeth

and more

Only with help.

Mine

Whereas most people do this on their own,

effortlessly

Not Kyle.

A fact.

It is just this way.

No judgment

Not any more

There is something about this space

This space we share in the groggy mornings

silently, sometimes

or with chit chat, sometimes

our chit chats

Beating to the sound of an unconventional drummer

Each day similar

Yet brand new

We show up differently to each other

and the tasks at hand

And to this space

I check in.

I know how his day begins

in connection with mine

I like knowing and connecting

I soon forget

how early it is

Others say out loud

Or silently

“Why not get someone else to do this job?

Anyone could do it.”

I now see why I still do.

No

not anyone could show up

And be in this space of love

There is something about it

Others think burden

But they don’t get it

I’m drawn in

There’s still something here

for me

for him

for us

The space beyond the words

and into the feeling

The space that is us

And at the same time,

Is much more than us

What we are all searching for

something intangible

esoteric even

Solid yet formless

Space of Love
